Melbourne Renegades win their first match against Sydney Thunder

Melbourne Renegades won the toss and took the same decision as their counterparts during previous matches - to bat. Hodge and Finch gave them an excellent opening partnership of 82 runs with scores of 44 and 41 respectively. However, the Renegades failed to take advantage of the opening foundation and scored a low 140/8 in their 20 overs with no significant contribution from other batsmen.

For the Sydney Thunder, there was only one major contribution from Gayle who scored 75 of 54 balls. However, the wickets on the other end kept falling and once Khawaja was out, wickets fell like a deck of cards.  The Thunders managed to score just 134 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

Melbourne Renegades won their first match against Sydney Thunder by 6 runs despite Gayle's thunderous batting.
